KNOWING PEOPLE
I have two kids and two dogs that are always tracking dirt, hair, grit and grime all over my poor house. I guess it’s lucky for me that my boss’s brother happens to own one of the very few places that specialize in Oriental rug cleaning in Chicago. I vacuum, I spot clean, I sweep, but we still need to have him come in once every few months to give the dingy looking rug a thorough cleaning to have it looking new again. I really try not to take advantage of the situation, but my boss and I are pretty good friends so his brother gives us very good service with a very big discount. It makes me feel a bit guilty sometimes, but I don’t know what I would do if it weren’t for his generosity, before I knew his place existed I priced cleanings from companies all over the city – and without the discount there is no way on earth that we’d be able to afford it. A lot of people say it’s good to know people, most of them mean mechanics, plumbers or electricians, but I tell you what, I’m perfectly happy knowing a guy who cleans rugs for a living.
